#5 Popeyes
Last August, the United States appeared to have lost their minds due to the release of Popeyes’ chicken sandwiches. People swore on their lives that the spicy chicken sandwich was the absolute best thing they have ever tasted. There were long lines outside of every Popeyes restaurant for weeks, a man was even arrested for stabbing and killing another man for cutting the line. I tasted this “so called” best spicy chicken sandwich and it was not worth standing in line for. I visited two different locations and each one gave me a sandwich that lacked both spice and flavor.
#4 Wendy’s
Once Popeyes released their spicy chicken sandwiches, Wendy’s joined the craze on social media with their sassy interns calling out everyone who wasted their time in long lines to try the plain Popeyes’ sandwiches. However, Wendy’s chicken sandwiches were not much better than Popeyes. Wendy’s chicken sandwiches do not have much or any spices on the chicken, but the chicken itself does have a flavorful taste. The chicken is hardly breaded, it is extremely soft, and the texture of the patty feels microwaved.
#3 Chick-fil-A
Chick-fil-A, hands-down, has the best spicy chicken sandwiches out of all fast food restaurants. The chicken is always juicy, and the spice has a kick to it. The flavor and spice of the chicken balances with the saltiness of the cucumbers. Chick-fil-A’s chicken sandwiches have crunchy and extremely juicy chicken that is nicely seasoned, and the spice hits you after a few bites. The spice adds on to the juiciness of the chicken, making your mouth watery for more.
#2 Baba’s Chicken

Baba’s Chicken is a new addition to the Riverside Food Lab but also has another location in Los Angeles. The spicy chicken sandwiches are constructed with two juicy tenders, coleslaw, pickles, a delicious sauce, and softly grilled buns. The chicken is covered with a dry spice; however, you can’t really taste the dryness of it unless you take a bite of the chicken alone. The sauce enhances the chicken’s savory taste, masking the dry spice, yet adding to its hot seasoning.
#1 Howlin’ Ray’s
If you are a huge fan of spicy food, you must try Howlin’ Ray’s chicken sandwiches. They are a Nashville hot chicken restaurant located in Chinatown Los Angeles, California. People line up outside the restaurant starting at 7 A.M and wait four hours for the restaurant to open its doors. The atmosphere of the restaurant is amazing as the workers memorize customer names and ensure that everyone is given a unique experience. The chicken is covered with a hot dry spice that is topped with sauce, pickles, coleslaw, and soft buns. There are five different levels of heat and two secret levels of “Howlin’ plus” and “Howlin’ plus plus” which can only be served if the customer signs discretion paperwork and uses gloves. Overall, the Howlin’ Ray’s spicy chicken sandwiches are the greatest in Southern California.
